debriefing.

ok, so, for the remainder of the season i'm going to dedicate a post to questions/observations after each episode of lost. those of you with the abilities, just edit the post to add your own. otherwise, leave em in the comments. because god knows we all need someone to digest this with....

Questions:
obviously, which timeline is actually happening? is it a one or the other thing, or is it alternative/parallel universes?
is sayid being inhabited by smokey? yes, they spread ash around the temple, but there was also ash around Jacob's cabin, where we saw Christian Shephard. if smokey is the one possessing all the dead bodies on the island (IE Yemi, Christian Shephard etc..) then the ash may protect against the smoke monster, but not against smokey possessing bodies? again, this is a long shot.
what the fuck is the deal with cyndi the flight attendant?
why did the new others let sayid come back to life and drown? was this intentional?
what did jacob's note say? was it just the list that he gave ben in season 2?
why didn't charlie run by jack and rose like in the pilot?

  1. There may have been a break in the ash around the cabin. Not sure if it was the first time Ben and John went in TMBTC or when it was when they went in Cabin Fever when John was told to move the island.

Also, it seems fairly obvious to me that MIB's comment to Richard of "It's nice to see you out of those chains" means that Richard was a slave on the Black Rock.

I REALLY like this theory: http://theoriesonlost.blogspot.com/2010/02/weve-seen-end-by-autumnatic.html

  2. why are the new others dresses like pirates...were they on the black rock just like richard....is that why they haven't aged?

did ben and the other others know there have been peeps hanging out by the temple this whole time?

and ditto, what the fuck is with cyndi and why does she always end up with those damn kids?

what lies in the shadow of the statue?

  3. Sayid is totally Jacob.

Both timelines are happening at the same time. Blowing up the bomb worked, but not in the way they planned. The bomb split time in two. That's why Jack sort knows Desmond, because he's technically from the same timeline as the other Jack.

I feel like the "chains" comment could mean the control Jacob had over Richard, just because Smokey Locke hated Jacob. But it would be cool if Richard was a slave.

Drowning Sayid/Letting him come back to life was probably not planned. The hourglass was probably a timer for how long it would take for Sayid to heal in the temple. But because he drowned before the hourglass finished, he wasn't healed, he just died. Then Jacob(?) comes swooping in and takes over Sayid's body.

Which leads to my theory: Jacob/Smoke Monster at formless entities that can take over bodies of people who have died (with certain conditions).

  5. yes yes yes tom. i completely agree, although i never thought of jacob being an entity like smokey because we've never seen him take any other non human form (maybe he inhabited christian?).
also i noticed A LOT of religious references. i'm going to rewatch tomorrow. baptism. sayid being carried like he had been taken off the cross. resurrection. good vs. evil (god vs. evil?)

  6. i also like mandy's pirate theory. that would make a lot of sense.
and it would appear that john locke's body is in the shadow of the statue?

  8. Dude dude dude, remember that really lame side plot where Ben had to be judged by the smoke monster? Ben wasn't in the room and the monster (in the form of Alex) basically made Ben not kill Locke. So that whole thing was a charade to make Ben the lapdog of Locke Stock And A Giant Smokin' Monster.

  9. I think Charlie didn't run by Jack and Rose like in the pilot because it was supposed to be slightly different (before the time when they would've crashed). Cindy the flight attendant only gave Jack 1 bottle instead of 2, Rose wasn't freaking out about the turbulence, probably a few other small things I didn't notice. Not quite sure what all that means though.

I agree with the Black Rock/Richard theory and that Jacob and Smokey/MIB/Essau are formless entitites.

WTF at everything being underwater in the beginning??

  10. yea i get the whole things being slightly different thing, but considering charlie was in the bathroom choking on a bag of H, i was surprised that they didn't shop him running from flight attendants which was presumably why he was swallowing the bag whole in the first place?
i have a feeling the underground nonsense might have to do with the volcano? i'm reaching here.

  11. Hmm true.
    Maybe it's Atlantis?

Oh and what was with the mysterious cut on Jack's neck? And how did Juliet know that "it worked"? Maybe Sawyer is her constant or she's with him (getting coffee) in the alternate storyline?

  13. Re: Samwise and cut on Jack's neck:

A friend of mine suggested that though they are on two separate timelines, it is possible that similar shit will happen between the two. So if Jack is bleeding in the island timeline, he might also start bleeding on the new timeline, but at a different degree. Or something. Because both timelines are connected or whatever.
