  1. That was one of the Super Bowl commercials that pissed me off. Everything that was listed was incredibly trivial. "Oh no, lip balm." "I have to clean the sink." The response was spot on.

As an aside, I am annoyed that the portrayal of the stereotypical American male has been reduced to "I hate performing common courtesies."

  2. Agreed. They reduce what should be a working relationship to sitcom cliches... I don't like that either of them are reenforcing gender stereotypes to meet their goals; that will only sell more Chargers.
That asside, WLS' commercial was creative and tackled some big issues in a way that most people should be able to empathize with, ... I wonder how Dodge was expecting their commercial would affect WLS' message.

  4. tom- thats the thing that boggles my mind. men are constantly reduced to these bumbling, inconsiderate chauvinists on tv, and i haven't seen nearly as much resistance from men as i have seen from feminists in similar situations. granted, i have more exposure to feminist movements, and i have seen work done on masculine stereotypes, i just haven't recognized any sort of large scale movement outside of male aligned feminists.
chas- as far as I know, WLS is not any sort of preexisting group, just the name of a few women's responses to the video. as for resorting to gender stereotypes, its different in the WLS response because they're using similarly antiquated ideas to demonstrate how ridiculous the dodge commerical is- they're not using those stereotypes to sell anything, but to make a point.
mandy- yes, yes that is dexter's voice. he's done a few dodge commericals. i am not pleased with this one.

  6. Tron - I wasn't sure if they were either, I just was too lazy to type "Women's Last Stand" ^^ I had assumed that WLS had a public message that was being mocked by dodge by the commercial.. as usual I blame my confusion on whiskey and last night's drunken shenanigans.
