grumblecakes gives his final(?) theories on lost

So, to be perfectly honest, I'm not a big fan of Lost right now. It's not the plot or the way they seem to close up loopholes in a rather arbitrary fashion. It is that I've given about 4 years of my life to this show (I watched seasons 1-3 on DVD) and now that it is over, I am asking myself "Why the hell did I watch this?" I have tried to avoid theorizing too much as well, because the show is over in a few months and what's the point on theorizing when the end is in sight?

But still, I have two theories to present.

Theory #1: "The Sickness" will only affect people who feel an immense loss.

So think about. Claire lost Aaron, she goes crazy. Sayid lost Shannon and Nadia, he goes crazy. Rousseau lost Alex, she goes crazy (though was she ever friends with smoke dude?). All of Bizarro Locke's friends, much like Bizarro Locke himself, lost something big and are now crazy. Sawyer, Kate, and Jin, for whatever reason, are still good because their shit is a little more together.

Theory #2: Jacob is an asshole.

So as he explained, Jacob brings people to the island to prove Bizarro Locke wrong. So you could be living your life, doing your thing, and then Jacob's like "Oh I'll just drop this guy on a freaky island where there is a very good chance this guy will be eaten by some mystery creature he cannot possibly comprehend. But it's cool, I'm Jacob." Mr. Eko died to settle a bet. Gee, thanks Jacob.

  1. re: the sickness- i like this theory. but i also think its important that (and i don't know if this is true of rousseau) "the sickness" took over claire and sayid after each one of them "died" and was seemingly resurrected- in season 4 (i think?) claire gets blown up by the freighter mercenaries in her house in new otherton. in this season, they drown sayid, he dies for a few minutes, and then he comes back to life and is possessed.
Also- Eko died because he wanted to be written off the show. my brother bases most of his theories on good v. evil on the fact that eko was killed by the smoke monster. but again, that was the actors' decision and maybe the writers hadn't developed the story arc as far yet.
anyways i've got some theories a brewin but i can't bring myself to write them down. i'm trying not to have any expectations for or an opinion on this last season because even if the ending sucks, i'm not gonna be mad that i've been watching this show for 5 years. go back and watch an episode from season 1 or 2...all of the answers people are looking for now weren't even relevant/apparent until season 3ish- and they certainly aren't why people starting watching the show to begin with. but they were there, and after the show ends, its going to be cool to look back and see that the writers having been putting this in motion for a while. yea, the questions may be why we kept watching, but the characters and their relationships were a bigger part of that (for me anyway). i was mad when we got tricked into watching sci-fi. i fucking hated the whole time traveling thing when it first happened. but any way you look at it- LOST changed tv in every way and that's another reason people feel obligated to see this thing through.
