yea i took an african history class at VCU and i was surprised (well, not really) that this isn't something thats taught before the college level. in a sense, i feel like its almost better that the general population is ignorant to the role africa played in the slave trade because they'd probably just use it as a get out of jail free card to keep being racist. you know, kinda like the whole "we have a black president how could anyone be racist" mentality.
I hear you on that, but I think it is best if more people know about this. A better understanding of history is always a good thing. And as much as we do need to study oppression and racism in the United States, I think information such as this will help African-Americans be more aware and be more willing to be critical of their own history.
